The story happened in the late Qing Dynasty (1800s), the last feudal monarchy in China. A Swedish technician Lucas followed his friend Guanghan to China; Guanghan is the second son of Cao’s family which is the richest in the town. They decided to attempt something ambitious in China – launching a match factory.
On the cruise to China, Lucas encountered Guanghan’s fiancée Yunan, a modern Chinese lady with western education. A legendary story started. However, their love was much in conflict with social norms and standards at that time. When a foreign man loves a Chinese lady from a traditionally Chinese family, could they win the battle against a culture with 5000 years’ history?
