A man who loses his wife in an air crash tries to discover the cause of the disaster. As he sifts through the secrets and lies surrounding the tragedy, he is forced to forget his grief for a while. He gets acquainted with the crew of the other plane involved in the incident, which miraculously avoided crashing, and he too celebrates their narrow escape. Unexpectedly these moments of grief start to evolve, and our hero experiences an unprecedented sense of elation and freedom. The deception he has created ensnares him, and although he is trapped, he is experiencing the happiest moments of his life. The mundane life to which he returns is in stark contrast with the excitement of recent events. The events on the screen reflect the complicated nature of life, where the ordinary merges with the unexpected, and grief turns into joy. The plane crash is a metaphor for the disintegration of Russian society, which is in a period of painful transformation, in which the common man is the victim.
