violent reprisals, torn from their families and banished to one of four ‘witch villages’ – remote settlements where they must fend for
themselves and live out their days in poverty and isolation.Filmmaker Allison Berg travels to the Kukuo Witches Camp in northern Ghana to meet four women struggling to survive. There are no guards or walls to hold them in, just the overwhelming fear that they will never be accepted anywhere again.We listen to their tragic stories, visit their home villages, and hear from high-ranking government officials and human-rights advocates.
The government is attempting to abolish the cruel, superstitious practice, but society is caught between its own deeply rooted beliefs and its drive toward modernization.
