Synopsis:
It was at the turn of the 20th century, Beijing.
The Ninth Princess and Fu Minister both were descendants of the royalty, while at the same time they were antagonists in feudal official as well as in business. The two ministers always had conflicts and each tried to cheat the other.
"Guyue Xuan" was a famous workshop specialized in firing and painting snuff bottles. Nie Xiaoxuan was the 6th successor of "Guyue Xuan" and fired a suit of delicate products for the Ninth Princess. Unexpectedly Fu Minister heard of this and became envious and restless...
The Ninth Princess took Nie Xiaoxuan as his own man and was afraid that Nie Xiaoxuan would be robbed away by Fu Minister, so he tried his best to "conceal" Nie Xiaoxuan to prison. While poor Nie Xiaoxuan and his families fell to be victims.
Wu Shibao had been a bureaucrat but was framed by his servant Xu Huanzhang and went into prison, where he met Nie Xiaoxuan and learned from him and became his successor.
Although Xu Huanzhang was low-born, he thought to bring honor to his ancestors. By the force of foreigners he destroyed the whole family of his master Wu Shibao. Then at the same time he dealt with two ministers. The Eight-Power Allied Forces broke into China in 1900, and the King and King Mother of Qing Dynasty flee at the mere sight of the oncoming force. The capital was acephalous. The Ninth Princess and Fu Minister had to endure humiliation in order to exist. They threw themselves into the lap of foreigners and tried to please their masters for their benefits. His patriotic act inspired some people and aroused their sleeping ardor. The dullish and declining capital was stirred...
The combat between the Ninth Princess and Fu Minister was more and more serious. On the surface they scrabbled for snuff bottle, while stealthily they concealed unspeakable evils. Later King Mother compromised to foreigners, and Fu Minister became sacrificial lamb. Xu Huanzhang's dream was broken up. Though the Ninth Princess was put in an important position, before long he was framed by others.
Wu Shibao was reduced to be a craftsman, but finally he understood that Qing Dynasty doomed to perish...
