In a city of northeast China in 1937, communist Fu Qingquan was sent by the Communist Party of China to persuade the local villain Hu Weihan to resist Japanese and at the same time rescue the labor leader Tong Fei and other injured workers who had been caught by Japanese. Fu Qingquan had to live in the home of his sister Qingqing, who helped him inquire the jug that Tong Fei was shut in. Hu Weihan had been coveting the famous actor Qi Manling of a theater for a long time, but Manling hated Wu Weihan who had even no national dignity. Hu Weihan was ashamed into anger and then ordered his men to catch Manling. Ji Zhengtian nephew of Hu Weihan helped Manling at it happened. Ji Zhengtian had been discontented with the behaviors of his uncle, but due to the kindred he had not intervened. And now he saved Manling, who was very grateful of him. Once upon a time, Manling was entangled by a crowd of Japanese, and Ji Zhengtian came to help her. On the urgent moment, Fu Qingquan appeared and defeated the Japanese. Admiring the kungfu and braveness of Fu Qingquan, Ji Zhengtian advised to swear to be brothers with Qingquan, but was refused. He had no idea that Fu Qingquan as a communist would not care for personal loyalties. Manling recognized Fu Qingquan to be her fellow brother who had been separated with her when they were still children. When rescuing Tong Fei and other workers, Fu Qingquan was caught by Hu Weihan. Luckily, Qingqing and Ji Zhengtian appeared in time and saved out the whole group of people. In 1945, Japan surrendered. Hu weihan colluded with Kuomintang, and continued to kill revolutionary patriots. He bore a grudge with Ji Zhengtian and Manling. So one rainy night, he instigated hatchet men to kill Manling and robbed her daughter Xiao Ya. Hearing the news, Ji Zhengtian was nearly crazy and he vowed to kill Hu Weihan. Fu Qingquan and Qingqing rescued Xiao Ya. Before the liberation of China, Kuomintang escaped in disorder. Hu Minghan attempted to destroy factory but was caught by Ji Zhengtian. Ji Zhengtian dragged him to the place where Manling was killed and in the punitive voices of the masses, ended his life...
