plot

At the beginning of Republican Era, famous master of martial arts Wu Ding-Dang and his wife gave birth to nine girls in a row. Fearing his husband might get a concubine for the sake of filiation and inheritance, Mrs. Wu had to lie about the sex of the tenth girl she gave birth to and named her Shi-Lang. For that matter, Wu Shi-Lang was raised and dressed as a boy and acted like one, too.

Shi-Lang inherited all her father’s martial skills and the personality that tolerates no injustice and partiality. But other than that, she fell in love with her childhood playmate and buddy, Li Yia-Shou the orphan. Yet Yia-Shou knew nothing about Shi-Lang’s secret identity and took her for his best pal. Also, wealth is Yia-Shou’s major concern. He sought every chance to marry girls from rich families for a better-off life.

One day, the rich family of Lei came into town for a martial art competition. Whoever won would marry the daughter of the family. Yia-Shou was determined to win for the beauty and for the wealth. To stop Yia-Shou from the marriage, Shi-Lang was compelled to join the game and win over him. But it turned out that Shi-Lang won over every other rival and became the fiancé of Lei Xiao-Yu. Taking Shi-Lang for a man, Lei Xiao-Yu fell in love the instant she saw her and vowed to marry no one but her. At this point, Xiao-Yu’s brother Lei Sheng-Da accidentally came across Shi-Lang in girl’s outfit and fell ferociously in love with her almost immediately. He too vowed to marry no one but her. The two siblings knew nothing about Shi-Lang’s identity and fought over Shi-Lang ever since.

Seeing that the whole farce was getting out of hand, Shi-Lang finally revealed her secret identity that stunned and shocked Ding-Dang who knew for the first time that his son was truly his daughter. Surprises were yet to come. The master of the Lei family, Lei Tiger, was deeply in love with Wu Ding-Dang back in time but in vain. Upon seeing her beloved once again, she wanted to start up once again a relationship with him. Ding-Dang, shocked and in fear, took the whole family away from town to avoid Lei Tiger. Before leaving the town, unable to leave Yia-Shou, Shi-Lang revealed her true identity and confessed her love to Yia-Shou who could not accept the fact at all, especially after she had ruined his life-long plan.

After the Wu family moved to Jing Wu Town, Ding-Dang was gradually adapted to the fact that Shi-Lang was a girl. He then forbade her to practice martial arts and wanted her to learn keeping the house and some needlework. This was not easy for Shi-Lang who had been brought up as a boy. Yet through her cousin A-Hao, the beauty of the town, Shi-Lang eventually managed to appreciate feminine beauty and her identity as a girl, and she learned to dress as one, too.

The three Lei’s were all mad lovers. Knowing that the Wu family fled from town, they had to unite under the same goal of finding them. In order to please Xiao-Yu, Yia-Shou accompanied her everywhere in her quest for Shi-Lang, waiting for her to acknowledge Shi-Lang’s identity and fall in love with him instead.

Yia-Shou and the Lei’s finally found Shi-Lang and her family in Jing-Wu town. To Yia-Shou’s disappointment, after knowing Shi-Lang’s identity, Xiao-Yu did not fall in love with him but with Lin Chi, A-Hao’s admirer. On the other hand, simple yet mad lover Shang-Da could not stop wooing Shi-Lang who avoided him all the time because she thought him a spoilt child.

Upon seeing Shang-Da for the first time, A-Hao, who had always wanted to marry a wealthy family, was attracted to his elegance, gentleness and his wealthy background. Even with her childhood playmate Lin Chi being so considerate and obedient, A-Hao repressed her feelings for him and was determined to make Shang-Da to like her.

Rascal Ping-Jian and his band often caused trouble. Yia-Shou and Shi-Lang who could not tolerate these things to happen secretly resisted Ping-Jian behind Ding-Dang’s back. Because of her excellence in martial arts, Shi-Lang was named the master of all masters and Yia-Shou the head of local civilian arm force. Xiao-Yu, moved by Yia-Shou’s efforts to save her life, finally fell in love with him, leaving Shi-Lang burning in jealousy. Knowing her feelings, Yia-Shou then tried to avoid her .This caused them to make a lot of scenes.

In order to defeat Ping-Jian in the Lion Dance contest, Shi-Lang and Yia-Shou went to Shang Zhong the master of lion dance as apprentice. Shang Zhong’s daughter fell in love with Yia-Shou and set her mind to break up Yia-Shou and Xiao-Yu. Shi-Lang was disappointed to see Yia-Shou such a playboy and seeing that Shang-Da became very conscientious and hardworking because of herself, she finally softened her heart.

After the deafeat of Ping-Jian by Shi-Lang and Yia-Shou, Bai Qiu Feng, a legendary, terror-striking thief and master of martial art, showed up in Jing Wu town. He who enjoyed causing trouble and harassing everyone in town was undefeatable even to Lei Tiger and Shang Zhong. Shi-Lang and Yia-Shou had to find every means possible to bring Bai Qiu Feng down but only to find out the truth about the death of Yia-Shou’s father.

After such bustle, Yia-Shou finally realized the value of love over wealth and began to pay attention to Shi-Lang. Although in love with Yia-Shou, Shi-Lang was gradually touched by Shang-Da. Their subtle relationship caused no less trouble to Shi-Lang. The first taste of love made her thrilled yet troubled, touched yet painful. Sometimes she was moved by Shang-Da’s vows and firmness; sometimes she burst into tears for Yia-Shou’s heartfelt, sincere yet foolish love. The choice was too hard to make, and she had nothing else to do but decide to hold a martial art competition for these two poor lovers.
